Mission and Values

Christ the King

Our goal is to help our students look at the world in the light of the Gospel and the social doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church, reflect on their commitments and responsibilities within the challenges of our time.
To achieve this purpose, we offer a Christian vision of the world, of the individual and of human relationships. Inspired by Saint Joan of Arc, a laywoman committed to her country and a prophet of the royalty of Christ, the Academy wants to help everyone put Jesus back in first place as He who is the Way, Truth and Life.

Because it is inspired by the teaching of Jesus Christ, the Academy is a place of fraternal life open to all, male and female students, Christian or not, of all nations, with respect for everyone and without individual judgments. The training provided is respectful of the social doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church and its traditional positioning, particularly on social issues, without fear of sometimes going against the mainstream movements in Western society, with respect to which the Academy claims the freedom to take a different view.

Why Joan of Arc?

A model of Christian leader

We, at the Académie, chose to be named after Saint Joan of Arc because she is the great laywoman engaged in the battles of her time. Her example shows us that, with God’s help, we can find the strength to achieve things impossible with human strength alone. In just a few months, Joan of Arc reversed the course of the world’s history. With God, she defeated great enemies, restored the kingship of Christ, and showed that for those who serve God first, victory is guaranteed. In front of the considerable challenges we, Christians, face today, the example of Saint Joan of Arc is a great source of Hope!

FAQs

WHAT TYPE OF PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE?

Académie St Joan of Arc’s purpose is to offer its students a curriculum mainly in English, a space for reflection and meditation, a living environment where everyone can learn to put themselves at the service of others while discovering the high places of the spirituality and History of the Church in France, as part of organized trips.

We offer in 2025 and Jan 2026 4 Soul-Booster Trails specifically aimed at English-speaking students, based on the richness of the French religious and historical Heritage, combining intellectual studies, outdoor and cultural activities, spiritual life, manual work and pilgrimages.
In the coming years, the range of programs will expand, with courses of different durations designed for various audiences. Stay tuned!

WHAT IS THE REQUIRED AGE TO JOIN THE ACADEMIE ST JOAN OF ARC PROGRAMS?

Our Soul-Booster Trails are particularly designed for newly Graduates before they begin their university curriculum, and students already in their higher studies. Therefore, the ideal age range to participate is 18 to 23 years old.

WHAT IS THE FOOD AND ACCOMODATION LIKE?

From camping to abbeys or hostels, you can expect to be in the heart of the action! During your stay, you will be mostly hosted by religious communities and accommodated in dorms, or in 2-people tents when camping. Either way, boys and girls will be separated, including for shower and toilet access.

For meals, you will have the opportunity to eat like a local, which is one of the best parts of travel! Our program includes 3 meals a day, with additional snacks when the outdoor activity is more intense. As we are generally hosted, we cannot guarantee that dietary requirements can be met so please make sure you check with one of the team before you book. During cultural, sporting or leisure activities, picnic or lunch boxes will be the preferred option. If you have specific questions, please contact the team.

Our 2 groups (boys, and girls) will be accompanied from start to finish by experienced French Instructors and Educators, all fluent in English. We will always respect the gender distribution of the staff within the groups.

Teachings will be provided by clerics from the communities hosting us, a senior theologian, philosophers, artists and former military officers, all experienced specialists in their field.

As part of the spiritual and human training provided by the Académie, you will have a limited usage of your mobile phone. Daily breaks and rest times will be scheduled for you to communicate with your loved ones. Outside of those slots, you will be asked to put your phone on airplane mode.

You should also let your friends and families know that you won’t have constant access to the internet while you are on your trip. Whilst Wifi is widely available in Europe, not every place you visit will have free wifi. As we take pride in exploring off the beaten track locations as part of the experience, there will definitely be times where you are out of contact so we encourage you to let loved ones know in advance times when you will be out of communication for a few days so they don’t worry. The Académie staff and project partners will always have a way of getting messages out in case of an emergency.

IS THERE A SPECIFIC DRESS CODE?

The program has 2 main types of activities: immersion in religious communities, for which you are asked to be modestly dressed: legs covered by non-tight clothing (no leggings), stomach, back and shoulders covered; and outdoor activities for which relevant clothing is advised: sports, smart casual, trekking.
